“As I came round I realised I should have been at work and I had done it again. This wasn’t the life I had envisaged, I was alone, drunk and tired, my life was one of pain and misery. It was then I knew it had to change.” – me, Kitty Waters
Life is not meant to be hard, its meant to be easy. So why does no one teach you the meaning of life at school? Why aren’t we all supplied with a ‘how to’ guide as soon as we learn to read? Where is that simple step by step process that people can follow to help them get the best from life? It is here in your hands. These are all the questions I asked myself and what led me to discover this 8 step process to abundant living – to save you from finding out the hard way and making the same mistakes as I did. These are the steps I took to get myself from drunk and on drugs to living a life I love. I transformed my life with them and you can do the same. It may seem a little woo-woo at times, because it is! Life is woo-woo and the sooner you learn that the better.
There are 8 steps and 8 is a magical number. It represents abundance and here it is within this process…..and is it a coincidence that the names for each step are an acronym for a state they lead to: ABUNDANT? As you will learn by working through the steps, there are no coincidences in life. The world is a magical creative place.
Whether you like your life or not, you are responsible for it. Everything you have done, every choice you have made and every thought and feeling you have had has led you to where you are at today. This is not always easy news to hear, but it is great news, because it means you can also change it! And here’s the truth, if you don’t do something different now, nothing will change.
The 8 steps of the ABUNDANT process will assist you to design your life consciously. Many people (and I was one of them) are creating their life unconsciously by living in default mode instead of consciously by living in design mode.
The Law of Attraction is real, but many have been disillusioned and disappointed after ‘trying’ to manifest their dreams. Many have missed out some of the Steps you are about to read. But I assure you that if you follow this process with diligence your life WILL change for the better. But you have to DO it. Abundance consciousness is a lifestyle, not something you do just occasionally. If you just drop the steps and revert back to whatever you were doing before, your abundance level will drop, too. In the same way that hitting the gym hard and working out consistently for a few weeks may start to create change in your physique – but it won’t stay that way if you just quit one day and get no exercise.
Below is an introduction to the eight steps – more information is contained in my book.
Every journey starts with one step, then another, then another…In this process each step is layered upon the previous one and step number one is at the beginning for a very good reason: If you don’t practice appreciation the rest will not flow, appreciation is the foundation stone upon which your new abundant life will be built. The process compounds so it is important to follow through.
Step 1 – Appreciation
Appreciation is powerful, it is one of the highest emotional states you can experience. You know how great you feel when you truly appreciate something, you feel uplifted and joyous and your heart swells with love. Lower level emotions like fear and hate do the opposite – they literally weigh you down energetically. Appreciation has the power to inspire you to take control of your life, it will shift your vibration upwards enabling you to consciously create the life and lifestyle you desire.
Appreciation and abundance go hand in hand, you can’t have one without the other. If you were to score the abundance in your life on a scale of 1 – 10 (where 1 equals a life of lack and 10 equals a life of abundance), then do the same with your level of appreciation in life, the scores will be very similar! And if they are both low – ramp up the appreciation and see what happens. You perceive life as you are – not as it is – in other words if you are unappreciative you perceive life as lacking, and if you are appreciative you perceive life as abundant. It’s your choice.
We are culturally conditioned to focus on what we don’t have, rather than appreciating and acknowledging what we do have, what we have achieved and all the wonders around us. The media plays on our feelings of lack by bombarding us with images of more and more ‘stuff’ that promises happiness with every purchase. But you don’t need me to tell you that these are hollow promises if you are feeling in a state of lack. When you cultivate gratitude, you are able to feel joy and fulfillment, no matter what you do or don’t have in your life.
Appreciation has the power to propel your life from fed-up to fantastic, from good to GRRrrreat, from mediocre to magnificent, from struggling to succeeding, from arid to abundant. It can transform a bad day into a better day, a poor life into a prosperous life, a rocky relationship into a rock-solid one. It is a source of infinite power. Like electricity, you may not be able to see it and certainly do not have to understand it in order to flick the switch and benefit from it instantly.
The word APPRECIATE has three meanings. The first is to be grateful or thankful, the second is to rise in value (for instance when the value of your assets rise, we say they appreciate), and the third is to be aware of and understand. For this vital part in your Abundance process, I would say all three meanings apply. When you are grateful for the good in your life you get more of it – it appreciates – and the more aware you become of this and the better you understand it, the sooner you will reap the benefits in all areas of your life. WARNING: When you do not appreciate the good – the good depreciates.
Step 2 -Being yourself
You are unique, there are approximately 7.4 billion people on this planet and there is no-one else like you. You are the only one with your unique fingerprints, your DNA, and your combination of gifts, talents, life-calling and dreams. Why would you want to be anyone else?
‘Just be yourself and you will be fine’ we say to friends and loved ones facing job interviews, important business presentations, new workplaces/schools, first dates and so on. ‘I am back to myself again’ say people who have recovered from hard times – be they physical, mental or emotional, or a combination of all. ‘I love being with you, I can just be me’ we say to our soulmates. But what does ‘being yourself’ really mean? All the above seem to imply that it means ‘ease’, easy because it requires no pretense, no effort. So why don’t more people do it more of the time?
Pretending to be someone you are not is often a form of self-defense, protecting you from imagined hurt, hiding behind a façade because you somehow believe that you are not ok. Like a shining diamond beneath layers of rock, your true ‘self’ may be hidden below some layers, some ways of being that you have adopted along the way to ‘fit in’, or ‘get by’. However, it is always there and may be making itself known through feelings of dissatisfaction and unease – because it wants OUT. The more you attempt to quieten the true you down, the more it shouts out in protest. The great news is you can dig below the layers and allow yourself to shine, and when you do your energy and confidence will GROW, because you won’t be wasting energy on pretending.
Life is meant to be easy, not hard, but often we end up doing things we don’t enjoy just to make money, to ‘get by’, and when we work in opposition to our true calling everything is an effort. Being Yourself is intrinsically linked to your purpose in life – what you came here to do. When you understand what your unique gift is and tune into it, then you will be living and working in flow. Everyone is different, you were not designed to be like anyone else – so work out how you tick and do what serves you. This is the true meaning of following your bliss – I highly recommend it.
In Step 1, I talked about how you create your world with your thoughts, how you attract your vibrational matches in life. This is happening all the time – whether you are conscious of it or not. Stop for a moment and take a look around you, look at your work, your relationships, your health, your home – it is all a reflection of how you have been up to this point. One of the greatest things about being yourself is becoming consciously aware of who you truly are and what you truly want. Then the magic happens: you become a deliberate thinker and creator, you act and think on purpose and create an amazing life. No more creating by default.
You know when you are in the presence of someone who is truly being themselves – they exude energy, being around them feels GREAT and freeing, and somehow gives you permission to be yourself too. When someone is truly being themselves you know they mean what they say and will quickly act on things. They seem confident, eager, excited and downright passionate.
